Good morning honourable judge, Miss Fiona, the chairman, worthy opponents and fellow classmates. I’m hykarl and I am a speaker as well as the captain of the affirmative side for as you can see, our topic for today: euthanasia should be legalized.

Euthanasia literally means ‘mercy killing’. It is taken from a Greek word ‘eu’ meaning ‘well and easy’ and ‘thanatos’ which is death. According to the House of Lords, Select Committee on Medical Ethics, the precise definition of euthanasia is "a deliberate intervention undertaken with the express intention of ending a life, to relieve intractable suffering". But to put it in simple words, it means to just end and free a life from suffering and pain through a quiet, painless death. It’s not really killing if you ask me. Because all euthanasia does to you is make you sleep, in peace, forever.

People who are involved in terrible accidents or suffer from an incurable disease need to depend on huge, expensive machines to keep them alive. Even with these machines they have no hope of recovering and still feel extreme pain throughout their bodies. They can do absolutely nothing to stop the pain and will eventually meet with the inescapable fate of death. Their families are paying a huge sum of money to keep them alive and for what??? To see the patients suffer from extreme pain every single day of their unnatural machine supported life? To me that is foolish!! The money can be used to support other patient financially who actually have a HOPE of surviving. Doctors and nurses can spend their time attending to other patients.

I’ll give you an example; imagine a horse that’s about to die but its going through hell to get there. And you have a gun with you. Would you let it suffer and let it die for God knows when? Or are you going to just end its suffering right here and right now by shooting it? However some countries say you have to just leave it alone or you’ll get arrested for killing.

Bottom line, euthanasia should be legalized. It is absurd that anyone or any group should have the authority to tell someone else what they can and cannot do with their own life with regard to this issue. I believe it to be the height of arrogance that someone can feel as though they can enforce their morality on someone suffering from a terminal disease. The overly moralistic person is not feeling the pain. They will not be affected in any way whether the dying person takes their own life or if they needlessly prolong their suffering. Yet, they insist on using the government to enforce their morality on people they don't even know. A dying person, suffering from cancer or some other horrific illness that promises nothing but a slow, painful death, should be able to die on their own terms, with dignity. Thank you.

This is my closing er... debate script

Let me clear this misunderstanding up. Religion says it’s wrong to kill a person. That is true. Let’s start by seeing what defines us from animals. Free will and the power of intellect. Should it not be the choice of the person in question to end their life then to live like a vegetable? What good can that man ring to the world? Everyday he suffers. Yet he can’t do anything. Maybe its time for them to go somewhere better. To live relying entirely to the power of machines is unnatural. Don’t you think living unnaturally is against natures will? Do you think the All-mighty wants his creation to suffer before dying? Therefore do you still think letting these people live and prolong their suffering is what’s best for them? Religion is used against violence and for peace. Not to encourage suffering.

Let's, for the sake of argument, state that a doctor is confronted by someone discreetly to perform an euthanasia procedure. However, I argue that by enforcing strict regulations and rules, a doctor freely euthanize a patient will be very difficult. By first having the patient qualifying medically, consensus would be also voiced by other doctors. Also, do remember that a voluntary euthanasia needs A REQUEST FROM THE PATIENT. A doctor can't get paid by some shady character and kill the patient; there has to be written consensus on the patient's part.

Euthanasia, It’s your life, your choice. Euthanasia, it’s about mercy. Its stops someone’s pain and endless suffering. Who wants to live dependent on machines? With no quality of life? Unable to speak, unable to move... Money won’t be wasted on people who don’t want to live... Family members can say their appropriate goodbyes... Will the last moment be in suffering or in dignity...? Once again, stop the suffering… let the people choose… Thank you…
